Melchior Schildt (1592-1667) was organist at the Market Church in Hanover and studied with J.P. Sweelinck, among others. As well as two early free compositions for organ (Praeambulum in G) this volume contains series of
variations on the Magnificat and the Epiphany chorale “Herr Christ, der einig Gottessohn” [O Christ, the only son of God].
